Replace "It's a Tie!" with this ipod Shuffle Challenge

Currently there is a diary on the recommended list titled "It's a Tie" which is being met with almost universal scorn. It apparently took only ten recs to get this diary 'recommended'. Instead of wasting time in the flame / snark war in that thread, I propose we replace it with something else with out substance, but that is not fueling the flames of discord. Let's hit shuffle!! Ten recs will get this on the list, 15 or so should push "It's a Tie" off!

UPDATE X 1; Hey!! It worked!! Thanks for all the recs!! I must go to work now, so I will leave you all to your musical day dreaming... UPDATE X 2; You folks have great taste in music!! I'm glad I could put a little fun in everyone's day... 4 hours, 160 comments, no TRs or flame wars. So, seriously, may I have my mojo returned now?

It's time to take a break from all the bickering. Turn on your ipod, (or zune or whatever),  hit shuffle, and report the first ten songs that play. It's simple, it's fun, and you just might find some new music to groove to. Just follow the simple rules.

Hey, theres gotta be rules!!

Rule number one; Faithfully report the first ten songs that come up on random play. No Cheating! Maybe you forgot there was a copy of "Afternoon Delight" buried in the thousands of tracks on your ipod - well, tough titties, bucko! We all have skeletons in our ipods - embrace them!

Rule number two; If you have mojo and recs to give, you must give them with wild abandon, like a teenager on extasy. Go on, kiss everyone in the room... you know you want to!

Rule number three; Obey rules number one and two.

My ten for today are...

The Revolution Starts Now / Steve Earl
Yeah!! Great start!!

Dia luna...Dia Pena / Manu chao

Spray Paint / Black Flag

You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby / The Smiths
No Comment ;-)

InSide / Moby

Town Called Malice / The Jam
The Greatest UK band ever, IMHO

India / Roxy Music

Till Victory / Patti Smith

With a Hip / Echo and the Bunnymen

And #10...

Andy Warhol / David Bowie

On your mark. get set, REC!!

Tin Pan Alley...it's the roughest place in town! (2.00 / 9)

At least this isn't nonsense!

Right now I'm in the midst of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's "Couldn't Stand the Weather" album.  As soon as I'm finished, I'll do ten on shuffle.  But I ain't interrupting the late, great SRV.

Rules? Did somebody say rules? (none / 0)

Cause Black Sabbath, 'Hand of Doom' effin RULEZ!

What you gonna do? Time's caught up with you
Now you wait your turn, you know there's no return
Take your written rules, you join the other fools
Turn to something new, now it's killing you

First it was the bomb, Vietnam napalm
Disillusioning, you push the needle in
From life you escape, reality's that way
Colours in your mind satisfy your time

Oh you, you know you must be blind
To do something like this
To take the sleep that you don't know
You're giving Death a kiss,
Oh, little fool now

Your mind is full of pleasure
Your body's looking ill
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/vBk ]
To you it's shallow leisure
So drop the acid pill, don't stop to think now

You're having a good time baby
But that won't last
Your mind's all full of things
You're living too fast
go out enjoy yourself
Don't bottle it in
You need someone to help you
To stick the needle in, yeah

Now you know the scene, your
skin starts turning green
Your eyes no longer seeing life's reality
Push the needle in, face death's sickly grin
Holes are in your skin, caused by deadly pin

Head starts spinning 'round, you
fall down to the ground
Feel your body heave, Death's hands starts to weave
It's too late to turn, you don't want to learn
Price of life you cry, now you're gonna die!

Re: Tin Pan Alley...it's the roughest place (2.00 / 7)

Rec the other diaries too until "It's a tie" is gone.  "We Have a Nominee" deserves it.  "It's not a tie" is pretty short, but sends a direct signal of rejection to "It's a tie".  "Hillary Rosen..."  deserves a rec. you get the point.

Cute.... (2.00 / 7)

I rec'ed not this, but rather everything else on the rec list as well as alegre's last post.

While I know alegre is still vigorously in support of Clinton and highly in doubt of Obama's ability to win, that piece was in my humble opinion a beautiful tribute and had the benefit of bearing some connection to reality. Personally I'd much prefer to see it on the rec list.

Re: Cute.... (2.00 / 11)

Calm down there, friend. I'd already relented and recced this by the time I you replied.

If you're referring to the defense of algere, I stand behind the statement that I'd prefer to see "I still support Clinton and isn't she still an amazing person" to "She's TIED!!!"

If you're referencing my comment being a bit of a buzzkill, guilty as charged. In the sprit of party unity, I rec you, and here are the embarrassing first 10 things that came up on my iTunes playlist.

"Show Me," Seal (oof)
"Let Go", Frou Frou (well, better, but oof)
"New Day", Kate Havnevik (yes, I watch Grey's Anatomy)
"January Friend", Goo Goo Dolls
"Monkey & Bear", Joanna Newsom (I own this song?)
"Urgency", Tilly & The Wall (I do like these guys)
"Kissing The Lipless", The Shins
"Reasons Why", Nickel Creek
"O Death", Ralph Stanley ("Oh, Brother Where Art Thou" Soundtrack)
"Warmer Climate (Bonus Track)", Snow Patrol

Here's to a "warmer climate" among Democrats due to party unity, and while we're at it, to slowing the warmer climate due to climate change.

I've had Winamp on my computer on shuffle for the past 2 hours, does that count? This was my last 10 songs:

At the Drive In - Doorman's Placebo

Boards of Canada - Base Free

Chrono Trigger (Video game soundtrack) - Dream of Zeal

Sigur Ros - Takk

Charlotte Martin - Four Walls

Ani DiFranco - Independence Day

Mogwai - Mogwai Fear Satan

M83 - On a White Lake Near a Green Mountain

M83 - Slight Night Shiver

Ani DiFranco - Little Plastic Castles

I love random play and not knowing what comes next. :D

here we go (2.00 / 9)

1) Kung - Phish 12/2/03.  The 20th anniversary show.  We can stage a runaway golf cart marathon!

2) Breeze - PGroove 5/27/06

3) Pebbles and Marbles - Trey Anastasio Band 5/21/02.  I'm not a big Trey solo band fan but I loved this song.  I wasn't surprised to discover that it would become a Phish vehicle.

4) I Am Hydrogen - Phish 11/22/97.  Last time all Dead, this time all Phish

5) Jam - Phil and Trey 10/28/06.  The Dead's bassist and Phish's guitarist in a free form band in Las Vegas.

6) Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac Rumours.   Wow!  A studio track.  Didn't Clinton (Bill) use this one as his campaign tune?

7) Big River - Grateful Dead 9/19/90.  As I wrote last time, a great show this was

8) Teakwood Betz - Perpetual Groove 1/5/07.  Ah, a show on the beloved Jam Cruise.  Horrible for the environment but such a great time.

9) It Starts Where It Ends - Brock Butler 1/6/06.  My iTunes is having a Pgroove moment; Brock is their guitarist.

10) Taste - Phish 7/30/03.  The song right before the dark, scary Twist.  Oh well.

A distance runner? (2.00 / 2)

I only use my iPod when I go running (short distances -- usually less than 5 miles), so all of the songs I load onto it are intended to keep me moving along. This particular shuffle is a pretty representative sample.

Re: WHoa now... (none / 0)

I'm still learning the idiosyncrasies of hipsterdom... so excuse me if the question comes off strange, but can people of color be represented in the hipster community? I know that some of the bboy, urban aesthetics are co-opted into the hipster culture... hence why I'm not completely surprised on being called hipster for a DJ Shadow collabo, but also why I was amused that I, an afro-filipino part of the hip hop community (and takes delight in raggin' on my hipster friends from the other side of BK) would be associated with hipsters when the only folks I know who listen to Shadow are backpack hip heads.

It was def a strange twist of irony brought to us by countercultural syncretisms...

I think I have a new thesis for cultural anthropology. LOL!
