I'm not going to start off with a disclaimer about who I'm going to vote for or who I supported in the primary. Draw your own conclusions.
I'm also going to keep it short, because I want to get out of the house and enjoy this national holiday when we celebrate the beginning of the process that found the first democracy since the ancient Greeks.
During the primaries, I watched as people on both sides bashed the other side and the opposing candidates. There were some really egregious comments coming from all sides. The rage was fueled by trolls from the GOP side. Apparently, some people want to keep the anger at a fever pitch and are doing everything they can to disrupt the Democratic party.
Hillary Clinton was a great candidate. She fought a long, difficult primary campaign that came up just short. This was a historic event in American history. It will be studied and discussed for generations. She has inspired women throughout the world by her example.
Barack Obama also fought a long, drawn-out primary campaign. He had an excellent campaign team that drew up a winning strategy that carried him to a narrow win. His candidacy was also historic. For the first time in American history, someone other than a white male has a real chance to become president of this country.
Democrats should be feeling on top of the world. They have just completed an historic primary campaign and are poised to not only win back the White House, but also a larger majority in Congress. For the first time in almost eight years, people are beginning to believe that this country can turn away from the disastrous policies of the Bush administration and regain it's position as leader of the Free World.
Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to matter to many people. They would rather rehash the primary campaign than focus on winning in November. A few Obama people, or trolls posing as Obama supporters, continue to poke at wounds that are still raw. Clinton supporters, or those posing as Clinton supporters, continue to fight the now finished primary battle. Few people seem to actually care about what really matters - winning in November.
It seems to me that more people would rather whine than win.
Hillary must really be sad to see what a mess this party is in. The party she has spent her whole life trying to build. The party that nominated and elected her husband to two terms as president. The party that is on the right side of the issues that Hillary has proven she cares about. I wonder how much pain the bitterness on display on this and other sites is causing Hillary? Does she cry when she sees her supporters throwing away the Democrats chances in November? How could she not? It almost makes me sad enough to cry.
I am only one voice. I cannot bring this party together by myself. I cannot bandage all of the wounds or smooth all of the troubled brows from the primary battle. I can only do my small part to push forward Hillary's mission.
So all of you out there who are constantly trashing Obama and trying to bring him down, think about what you are doing to Hillary by these actions. Every time you work to drag down the Democratic candidate, you are spitting on Hillary Clinton. Every time you trash the Democratic party, you are saying that Hillary's entire political life was spent on the wrong cause. Every time you do something to anger another Democrat, no matter who they supported in the primary, you are working to help the people that, for the last sixteen years, have worked to bring down Bill and Hillary Clinton and to destroy them. Are you proud of yourselves?
The title of this diary makes a claim that I can't prove. I don't have photos of Hillary crying, but I imagine she will be in November if John McCain wins the presidency.
She will be crying along with countless others who will suffer because the Democrats were too divided to care about what really matters. She will be crying beside the mother who finds herself at the graveside of her young son or daughter who was killed in the middle-east. She will be crying beside the women who see their hopes and dreams crushed by a McCain presidency and the Supreme Court justices he appoints who hand down decisions that are harmful to women. She will be crying beside the mother with small children who finds herself unable to afford health care for her sick child. She will be crying on a daily basis during every day of a McCain presidency.
I feel your pain, Hillary.
